A Smart Move

The California Beverage Container Recycling Act AB2020 was created to increase recycling by providing convenient locations to recycle and offer consumers a fair redemption value.

The state of California requires convenient zones in which supermarkets are mandated to have a recycling center within a one-half mile radius of their store. If no recycle center is within this radius, the store is considered un-served. Un-served stores have to comply with state law by doing one of the following:

	Establish a certified recycling center
	Redeem all empty beverage containers at all open cash registers within store
	Pay $100 per day to the state of California Department of Conservation
